What is personalized medicine?
We all have an individual, genetically defined ability to process the molecules of different medicines. Simple example: some of us miss the ability to metabolize ibuprofen properly. If you do not know about this, you will probably follow the advice to use this drug against fever or pain, and will not understand why you feel even worse after. In America the existance of such testing is widely known and used, around here, unfortunately hardly anybody (including doctors) knows about it.This causes much suffering to patients.
If a genetic testing is performed, you will know about a wide range of drugs whether your system will react to them as generally expected or not: meaning either that toxicity of the drug will be elevated or the opposite, dosage has to be raised.
